Cerveceros 5th Annual Teach A Friend To Home Brew
Saturday November 2nd
401 King William St.
San Antonio , TX
Event Description: In 1999, the American Homebrewer Association (AHA) proclaimed that the first Saturday in November would be “Learn to Homebrew Day”. Throughout the United States, and even internationally, homebrewers would gather together to dedicate this day in educating the public about craft beer and brewing. In 2008, a young craft beer community, known as the San Antonio Cerveceros, realized that Texas, even with it’s strong brewery tradition, was not being a part of “Learn to Homebrew Day”; hence, several Cerveceros developed a small event entitled: “Teach A Friend To Homebrew”. Throughout the years, the event has grown and attendance has reach between 300-400 people. What has become a small attempt to preserve Texas’ brewing tradition has exploded to a popular yet educational event. General details: This event will focus on homebrewers and professional brewers teaching the public on how to make beer from start to finish. There will be two 5-gallon brew (which takes about 5 hours) and several 1-gallon brews throughout the event. Specifics: – This event is open to the public. – FREE Beer Samples from homebrewers and local breweries. – We will be brewing! – Expected attendance: 300-400 people. – Exhibit space and sponsorships are available – of course … food trucks! For more information regarding the event, sponsorship and/or volunteering, contact: Jesse Reyes at email@example.com

All are welcome to the San Antonio Cerveceros August Meeting focusing on Starting Your Yeast. If you’re a avid brewer, craft beer enthusiast or interested in being a part of San Antonio’s Craft Beer Movement, please attend this month’s meeting at The Monterey’s back patio at 7pm.
During this month’s meeting we will also discuss making a yeast starter. The quality of your homebrew will be dramatically improved by pitching enough yeast. Although modern liquid brewer’s yeast is a huge improvement over the older dry yeast, these packages do not contain enough yeast cells for optimal pitching. “Underpitching” results in a slower startup, higher risk of infection, off flavors and sometimes an incomplete fermentation. Pitching the right amount of yeast is just another tool to help perfect your beer.
This class will teach you:
• How to take care of your yeast.
• How to calculate the amount of yeast you need for your specific brew.
• How to make a yeast starter
• How to determine the size starter you need.
• How to “step up” a starter.
• What Equipment is needed to make a yeast starter.
• How to properly pitch your yeast starter.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
